Edward Loef, an expert in technical analysis will speak at our Academy! Edward owns a company that provides stock advice to clients. Last year he was a speaker on our Symposium. The level of the lecture is interesting for both first and older year students! Don’t forget to subscribe!
On November 1st, another B&R Academy will take place. ABN Amro will give the lecture and share with us their experience and knowledge of turbos. Turbos are interesting for investment groups at B&R Beurs. They allow us to use leverage and trade commodities, currencies, and other financial products to which we wouldn’t have access to otherwise.
Across the years, all investment groups have used turbos, and it is thus necessary to understand them. You can subscribe to the Academy #4 now. Please, read this document before attending the lecture.
Then, many members have exams this week or next week. Do not forget to check the forum for some old exams or summaries of your study! Don’t hesitate to upload old exams yourself.
Good luck with your exams and see you on November 1st!

It has been quiet around the B&R Academy for a while now, but we’ll make it up to you during April.
Wednesday, the 11th of April, 4.00 pm we will organize a guest lecture by Euronext. The subject will be on Euronext, the company behind the Dutch stockmarket, and on options.
Did your knowledge about options fade away after the last Academy or couldn’t you attend that time? Don’t worry. All the basic things you need to know will be explained as well.
The Friday hereafter, April 13th, we will visit the Amsterdam Exchange. Although floor trading was replaced by electronic trading almost ten years ago this is still a special place which every investor has had to visit at least once. We have arranged to combine this visit with another lecture which will build further on the one that will be held on the Wednesday. It’s recommend you come to the Wednesday lecture therefore as well.

This is an example of how to make an investment proposal, especially helpful for new members
Proposal: long in PostNL
PostNL is the successor of TNT N.V. after the spinoff of TNT Express on May 31, 2011. PostNL has activities in the areas of mail, packages and e-commerce in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, England and Italy. In 2010 PostNL had a turnover of € 4.268 billion and it has a market capitalization of € 1.25 billion (as of 1/11/11).
Fundamental
Market leader in mail and parcels in the Netherlands, growing share in Belgium, Germany, England and Italy. Postal market is becoming smaller for PostNL due to increasing competition and the Internet. The market for packages and e-commerce, however, is rapidly growing due to an increase in Internet sales.
PostNL also has 30% of the shares of TNT Express. TNT Express is a relatively small express company which has long existing takeover rumors, especially with the current low share price a takeover is therefore not unlikely. Should it come to an acquisition than PostNL take advantage of the expected takeover premium by the great share it has in TNT Express.
Furthermore, at the current stock price PostNL has a very attractive dividend yield of about 15%, of course it is not certain whether the dividend next year will be the same size as this year.
Technical
In early October, the price bottomed out at about € 3.10. Then restored the course to € 3.90 before falling to the current price of € 3.38. This is slightly above the previous bottom and there is a good chance that the price will stay above it now.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) finally is neutral (see bottom graph), after a few days ago it was still overbought. (A share is overbought if the green line hits the blue one and becomes oversold as the green line hits the red.)
Conclusion
A long position seems justified in view of the foregoing. Because of high volatility of the share and the market as a whole currently, it is wise to limit leverage to at most 3.
